Remembering the good ole’ days.
Last night I watched Beverly hills cop Axel F. which is Eddie Murphy’s most memorable roll in my books, and as I was watching the movie, I thought to myself, this character was born the same year as me ( meaning axel was first portrayed on the big screen the same year I was born.) I first watched Beverly hills cop when I was 5 years old, and I laughed so much when Eddie Murphy did his signature laugh, I watched the 2nd movie in 1990 and remember thinking Axel foley is amazing, and his signature laugh is priceless, when I watched Beverly hills cops 3 I thought nothing can top this cop movie with his wit and his tenaciousness, and that laugh.
Apparently there was a Beverly Hills Cop tv show that was supposed to be about Axel foley’s son, Aaron foley, I didn’t hear about it until way later, then last year I saw that Eddie Murphy was going to reprise his roll as Axel, I did my due diligence and watched all the interviews that had anything to do with this new Beverly Hills Cop tv show/movie, and it one interview a few days before the show was to release in canada (last night, July 3rd 2024) the interviewer asked Eddie Murphy if he had “retired” the classic axel foley laugh, and Eddie Murphy said “ Actually that was my laugh, it was not Axel foley’s laugh, and I stopped doing it because, when people would impersonate me that face would be made, the big smile with all the teeth showing and that Heeh heeh eeh” he goes on to say that it took years to get out of that laugh to a place when he was okay with his laugh.
About 20 years ago I went to College, I was a funny outgoing person going into college, and the first week there I saw how out going some of the people I met, and I thought i can do that. so I did that, I became the most outgoing person on campus, everyone knew me but I was still sad, I remembered high school and people didn’t really connect with me so when I went to college, I changed who I was and pushed myself to be more outgoing, to remember peoples names, to be that guy.
Looking back the hardest time I had at college was wanting a everyone to like me, the best time I had at college was having a group of people just hanging out, we did hacky sack ( which really shows my age) and we sat under the tree near the dorms and played some music, my point that I am trying to make is this. Be who you are! trust in yourself, I know that is cliche’ but it’s true, you are the only you that has ever existed and there will never be another.
I’ll end with a quote from good will hunting.
Robin Williams playing Sean in Good Will hunting “Some people can’t believe in themselves until someone else believes in them first.”
I believe in you! Be the best you, that you can be
